Description
Nero d’Avola has only recently come into fashion in Australia but it has been produced in Sicily for centuries. The vineyard for the picked by my wife Nero is located in Barmera and the grapes are grown organically. In 2015 the vintage was hand-picked 1 month earlier than normal but the grapes arrived in the winery with beautiful natural acidity and medium bodied flavours. Eighty percent of the grapes were destemmed (whole berries) with the remaining twenty percent whole bunch allowing a slow fermentation to proceed. After 14 days on skins the wine was pressed off to old French oak.
