The essence and quality of a wine very much relates to the grower. So we trusted Trevor Griffen, sadly passed this year, who matched his passion for politics with that for tending vines. With respect to his skills we aimed to highlight the inherent quality of the fruit with minimum interference and only a touch of sulphur. This Syrah vineyard was planted in 1996 and is situated in Kuipto at an elevation of 350m. During the ripening period the vineyard gets morning sun which makes for a long and slow ripening season.
The grapes were picked April 6th and wild fermented on skins for 6 ½ weeks before being pressed to old French oak. This wine is an interesting contrast to our View Road Shiraz sourced at the Blewitt Springs vineyard only 7 km from the Kuipto vineyard. We hope you enjoy the difference.
