Australia is a beautiful country that is excruciatingly hot during the summer months. View Road Wines set about producing a lighter style red that was perfect to drink straight out of the bottle on a lazy summer evening. The Picked by my Wife Piccolo Rosso is a blend of 50% Aglianico, 25% Sagrantino, 24% Merlot and 1% Bianco d’Alessano. Each parcel was fermented separately and matured in old French oak before being blended and bottled.
The Aglianico was grown in McLaren Vale on Sand Road and was picked early with a flavour spectrum of cherries and dried earth and was fermented on skins for 7 days. The Sagrantino was picked in mid-march and was pressed straight off skins and underwent wild ferment in a French hogshead. The Merlot and Bianco d’Alessano were picked in late march with each wine spending 2 weeks on skins before being pressed off to old French oak. The final blend was assembled with fragrance and vitality in mind.
